Low noack diesel oil

The lowest measured temperature at which the oil will ignite or flash is test of new oil, flash point can also be utilized in used oil analysis to detect fuel dilution, The Noack volatility test was developed by Dr. Kurt Noack in the 1930s and first   Group III base oils have lower CCS and Noack volatility properties compared to Group II which makes them the ideal base oils for formulating 5W-30 HD oils (  Recent trend toward lower viscosity of engine oils is directly connected to the the new base oils have higher quality including high viscosity index, low Noack

In the Noack test the oil is heated to 150° C for a specified period. The lighter oil fractions will "boil-off," leading eventually to oil consumption, oil thickening and a loss of performance. The test reports results in the percentage, by weight, lost due to "boil-off.". Originally developed and used in Europe, the NOACK volatility test determines how much weight an oil loses through volatilization. The more motor oil vaporizes, the thicker and heavier it becomes, contributing to poor circulation, reduced fuel economy and increased oil consumption, wear and emissions. In the NOACK test, an oil sample is weighed and heated to 250°C (482°F) for one hour. Dry air is passed over the sample, carrying the oil vapors that have boiled off and depositing them in a beaker. The original sample is removed and re-weighed. Any reduction in weight is reported as a percentage lost of the original weight. Previously, a lubricant’s flash point was the primary way to approximate oil’s volatility. In the NOACK test, an oil sample is weighed and heated to 250°C (482°F) for one hour. Dry air is passed over the sample, carrying the oil vapors that have boiled off and depositing them in a beaker. The original sample is removed and re-weighed. So basically the lower the NOACK % the least oil consumption and vapor is generated as the oil boils off. If you don't want to install a catch can to catch the vapor, you can try using an oil with a low NOACK as less vapor will be created.

Enhanced oil and additive durability. Reduced emissions. Reduced friction Sulphated ash from the engine oil can contribute to from 15% to 13% NOACK

24 Oct 2019 Gains in power and fuel economy have been realized with direct injection and turbocharging. One of the earliest oil tests was the NOACK test. Synthetic oils have much lower oil volatility, reducing the amount of oil vapor  particularly when low particulate forming diesel fuel formulations are used. NOACK volatility of this oil was 7.2%(w) and its HTHS viscosity was 3.00 cP.

Unless you are driving a diesel truck made before 1993, your engine will definitely benefit from the use of low ash CJ-4 oil. It's better than conventional oil in almost every way. It protects against engine wear, piston deposits, oil foaming and aeration, soot, sludge, and high temperatures.

Amsoil Signature Series 5W-20 seems to be the lowest in NOACK and TEOST but no SAPS information. After that, the next lowest NOACK is Pennzoil Platinum.
